It had many captured in the fight at Selma. The regiment, now practically organized yet still far from being in anything approaching a perfected state, was ordered to proceed to San Antonio, where it arrived early in April and formed a camp of instruction. Â, At present (February, 1895) the regiment is commanded by Colonel James Biddle and eight troops garrison the post of Fort Robinson, Neb. However, Troops L and M went directly to their duty station at Brownsville, Texas. As they crossed the border into Kuwait, the 8.5 year long war in Iraq ended. Nearly all were bachelors, with the careless habits this class of army officers are noted for, though the presence of an occasional lady served to check in part the familiarity engendered by lack of privacy and constant association, serious objections to any long continued camp. April 18: The regiment was reorganized. Companies A and B, 1-9th Cav, were assigned to other task forces in Iraq, notably Task Force All American (TF-AA).[4]. The 4th Squadron, 9th Cavalry, "Darkhorse" is stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and is the armored reconnaissance squadron for the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. By assiduous labor and constant drilling much headway was made, however, and by the end of March, 1867, a change of station was determined upon. Historically, it was one of a few segregated African American regiments. It was further provided that to be eligible for selection, an active service of two years in the field during the War of the Rebellion was necessary; also that applicants should have been distinguished for capacity and good conduct. The 2d Squadron, 9th Cavalry, assigned to the 7th Infantry (Light), deployed to Panama in order to conduct combat operations during Operation Just Cause and the ensuing humanitarian and nation building mission Operation Promote Liberty. In addition, they patrolled supply and communications lines and sources of water on the islands of Luzon and Jolo. It was therefore inactivated 7 March 1944 in North Africa. He went right manfully to work, determined to succeed, and in this he was ably seconded by his officers.   The camp near San Antonio was continued for some three months, and the time spent there was profitably employed in completing and perfecting the organization and drill, already well under way from the efforts of the preceding winter.
